Benefits of Registering as an NHS dental patient

NHS

In order to receive the full range of dental treatment and care available under the NHS, a patient must be registered with a dentist.

Registration with a NHS dentist lasts for 48 months and a patient must attend at least once in that period, before their registration with that dentist lapses.

Once registered, a dentist will be able to provide a registered NHS patient with any treatment they need to secure and maintain their oral health under the NHS.

A NHS patient may also request to have any treatment provided privately.

When attending for treatment your dentist’s staff will ask you to sign a GP17 form; please ensure that you sign only in the appropriate places, particularly regarding whether you will have to pay.

At the end of treatment you will be required to sign to confirm that treatment has been completed.

Who gets free treatment on the NHS?

NHS treatment is free for:

  • Everyone aged under 18
  • Those aged under 19 in full-time education
  • Pregnant and nursing mothers
  • Those with certificated exemption from payment because of income
